Passivation
Passivation is a chemical process in which the surface of a metal is specifically treated to make it more resistant to corrosion. In this process, a thin protective layer forms on the metal, preventing oxygen or moisture from attacking the material.

Passivation: Zinc, Zinc-Iron and Zinc-Nickel
Zinc is a relatively reactive metal that oxidizes easily. The passivation of zinc, zinc-iron, and zinc-nickel is therefore a crucial step in increasing the corrosion resistance of these electroplated zinc coatings. Through chemical conversion, a protective layer is formed that preserves the metal from oxidation and significantly extends its service life.
Our cobalt-containing PROSEAL XZ series, based on trivalent chromium, offers a range of options for various applications, including fluoride-free formulations. Variants containing hexavalent chromium are also still available.

Cobalt-free passivation for zinc
Traditional passivations often contain cobalt. With our PROSEAL CF series, we also offer cobalt-free passivations that are environmentally friendly and resource-efficient while maintaining equally high protective performance. During passivation, only a small amount of zinc is removed, and hexavalent chromium is also avoided.
